A gluten free diet has become a popular trend in recent months


Gluten free diet is the latest craze for those people, who are looking for weight loss, but what is the truth? Is gluten accountable for my love handles?  The answer is no, but let us clear the air of any misconception.

What is gluten and Celiac disease?

Gluten is a protein that can be found in whole grains wheat, barley, rye, and numerous processed foods including bread, pasta, and cereals.

Normally, specific people avoid gluten as they have Celiac disease. Celiac is an auto-immune illness. The body’s immune reaction to gluten damages the small intestine coating. This results in severe abdominal pain, nausea, bloating, and diarrhea.  Celiac disease inhibits the absorption of vitamins and minerals and indorses weight loss.

Other people evade gluten because of gluten intolerance. Gluten intolerance mimics symptoms of Celiac disease without any immunity response.

Why do people avoid gluten to lose weight?

There is no evidence that just getting rid of gluten will result in weight loss.

Yet, eating gluten free diet often might cause you to eat more unprocessed foods like vegetables, fruits, legumes and lean meats. These diet modifications are often healthier and low in calories.

Just remember to ingest a varied diet rich in vegetables, fruits, and legumes to avoid vitamin or mineral deficiencies and endorse a healthy weight and lifestyle.

Gluten free diets are usually consumed by those who are unable to tolerate gluten on a biological level.  Yet, some people choose to follow a gluten-free diet for healthier eating.

There is no harm in evading gluten, but remember to eat a balanced diet rich in vegetables, fruits, and legumes. Ensure your gluten free choices are still 100 percent whole grains like buckwheat, brown rice or quinoa.

You generally lose weight when you spend more calories or energy than you eat – not by evading gluten.  Proper diet and exercise are both significant components of a healthy lifestyle and weight management.
